Primary Result Analysis

State Of Delaware - Elections Results

A more detailed analysis will have to wait, but here's some points that jumped out at me and I think should be noted:

1) Pro-lifers come out looking great from yesterday. Christine O'Donnell, with virtually no campaign spending or publicity, captured more than one out of 6 primary votes in her race for Senate, while taking a very strong pro-life position. Mike Protack, also pro-life, broke 40%. In total, almost 3 out of every 5 votes in the Republican primary were cast for the pro-life, non-Party endorsed candidates, even though one barely campaigned.

2) Wilmington Republicans, though frequently maligned in the State GOP, put on what was likely the best showing of a GOP party committee yesterday. Their endorsed candidate for the 1st Senate District, Greg Chambers, beat his opponent, Tyler Nixon, by more than a 2-1 margin. In addition, they delivered an outright majority of the City's votes for Jan Ting, singlehandedly providing over half of his state-wide margin. Their performance is likely envied by other regional committees who weren't as successful.

Check out FirstStatePolitics for some more good analysis of the election.

Perhaps if the state party and the "Wilmington Republicans" had put 1/5 of the effort into helping Ting elsewhere rather than everything they had into propping up Greg Chambers they might not look like such an embarrassment.

It also goes to show you that Nixon was running against the party's most kool-aid drunken committee hacks, who only show how clearly out of touch they are with the rest of the state's grassroots. Without their propping up of Chambers (or Ting, to a lesser extent) both would be headed to the showers.

Nice try to make lemonade out of sour grapes though.

This post was about the City Committee, not about anything else and they did their job well: delivering votes for the party's endorsed candidates in their area. Why are you holding it against Wilmington that Ting did so poorly in Kent?
