Is Beau a No Go?

This definitely falls into the category of gossip/rumor, but I was talking to a Democratic acquaintance of mine at the Italian Festival last week and he was telling me that Beau's campaign is as good as over. He says that once voters look at Wharton and Beau, they'll know there's no comparison; Wharton is clearly much more qualified for the office.

I was forbidden to use his name, but have no reason to doubt him, especially considering his normal positiveness about Democratic chances. He's fairly involved in the party, and counts a number of state wide officials as personal friends, so his pessimism has to be taken as a good sign for the GOP's hopes to win this election.

If Beau Biden wins because of his last name then, the Delaware I knew would be no more! Our justice system cannot be a door mat for Biden to wipe his feet on. There would be no honor in a Biden victory as it would be a shamful event in the struggle for political reform. If he is a man and not his father's shadow, he needs to step out and find his own way in life.

Paul, I hope your right, but i worry that it is "if" not "when" the voters compare qualifications.

Daddy Joe will raise over a million dollars for junior. That will buy a lot of distraction.

watch the asto-turf, hired crowds of interns, contractors for lit drops. nobody puts up a better false front than team biden.

Is this some kind of "make-up call" for Dana?

It would hardly be a surprise if Beau won. It would not be the first time Delawareans rejected the better candidate for reasons other than qualifications. As a matter of general political theory, voters do not always vote for the "best" or "most qualified" candidate, so long as they are comfortable that the candidate they want to support is a "good" candidate.

That goes for national elections as well; on paper, Kerry looked ideal. Remember, Dems moved toward him because he "could win" and Dean could not. Then he turned out to be robo-senator who talked in circles.

This is a race I'm watching with interest. I'm a Dem., and I'd happily vote for Biden for a more political position, as sometimes in Congress experience can be a burden (I on political issues, I often disagree with Republicans). For AG though, ideology is less important, so I'm rather undecided at this point in time. However, I can't speak for others who would pull the lever because they know the name next to it.
