Here's a link to Celia Cohen's piece where she reports about Mike Protack's attempt to be made state party chairman, the story Dana claims to be untrue.
I would not hold our collective breath waiting for an apology or a retraction, but it does reveal the disingenuous nature of Delaware Watch. If you disagree with Dana and his minions, the truth goes out the window.
So, Ryan, just 3 days after your boss Seth Wimer's letter of endorsement for Ting (Delaware Federation of College Republicans) arrived in the mailboxes of EVERY DELEGATE AND ALTERNATE to the convention this weekend, you just happen to write a piece here trashing Protack and taking the official (but hushed & insider) view that Ting should get the nomination. Such great neutrality from an ex officio member (Seth) of the party's executive committee,eh?
Do you think that the endorsement sent to the delegates was aided in the least bit by the fact that the Ting campaign PAID FOR THE LETTER as it says on the letter itself?
Let's now imagine how this all works like a well oiled machine. The leadership uses one its official organs to send the message to the delegates that Ting is the inevitable choice, the annoited one, so don't bother to consider Protack or anyone else. Then, it just so happens, that the member of the con alliance who happens to be on the staff of the Delaware Federation of College Republicans delivers here his enorsement of Ting as well.
Although I have no doubt that you sincerly prefer Ting to Protack, I can't help but wonder why your post about the race was on how Ting was such a swell guy and Protack an unwanted cretin instead of how your boss Seth was argubably abusing his authority by trying to influence the outcome of the endorsement race before the convention?
No, no--the con alliance will never mention any of that! Heaven forbid! Nay, for them it's "Let's just add our rubber stamp to the leadership's choice and not give a damn about the process."
That's just beautiful, guys. You should go far in your party...at the point you have lost your souls.
Don't any of you ever condescend to me again. You don't deserve it.
See Dana...the biggest assumption that you make here, that is way off, is that I knew about the letter, which I did not. We may all be part of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, but that doesn't mean we'e always plotting this kind of stuff over tea and buscuits.
Dana, you are so full of shit. You don't know the first thing about what you say, and it is exposed for all the world to see.
The overwhelming majority of delegates in 2006 were delegates in 2004, and they have seen Protack's dance before. Their ignoring him is just a natural reaction to the fact that he is, has been and probably will be again a poor candidate. They are not doing what they are told. Terry Strine has at best a loose hold on about 15 people in Delaware. Most of the delegates are just active Republicans with their own minds and opinions. Protack's going to lose the nomination and the primary and there's nothing anyone can do about it, even if they wanted to, because of one fact: Republicans do not see Mike Protack as someone they want to represent them. Period.
That said, no one has said Protack is crazy, or a cretin. I know your standards for yourself are minimal at best, but try once, once in your life to actually accuse someone of something they actually did or said.
And I will condescend you all day long, until you give me a reason not to.
"That said, no one has said Protack is crazy, or a cretin. "
"Your beauty is that you lie and it merely takes 15 minutes to show it. Enjoy...some of it will be familar because it is yours:
"The treatment of Protack is merely the current illustration of those party issues. It could just easily be someone else. However, when you throw your hat in the ring every election for a statewide seat, and you never come close to winning, you become a cautionary tale, or in Protack's case, **a punch line.***
"Protack promises "bold leadership, new ideas." He has one card on health care, one on taxes and one on education. The card on education probably would be more effective if he could spell "governor." He has it as "governer."
"Mike Protack. Bold leadership. New ideas. Uncommon spelling."
"No one in their right mind could consider Mike Protack credible competition. He has made a jackass of himself in nearly every appearance he makes
• Protack files for Governor - 7 errors in spacing and 1 misspelled word ("particpants") • Protack comments on proposed budget increase - 1 repeated word ("doesn't doesn't"), 2 errors in spacing, and 1 misspelled word ("frm") • Taxes and Growth - 1 misspelled word ("totalling") and three punctuation errors • Education Fairness - 4 misspelled words ("becasue", "bureacracy", "clasrooms", "techers"), 3 errors in spacing, and one sentence fragment. These errors, again, are in Education Fairness. Is there any wonder that the press doesn't take Mike Protack seriously? He's trying to gain the favor of professional journalists with documents that don't fully conform to the English language. That's like trying to impress a major league pitcher by girly-arming a nerf ball to him." http://billleeforgovernor.blogspot.com/2004/08/mke-protak-to-bann-spellchek.html ______________ "The overwhelming majority of delegates in 2006 were delegates in 2004, and they have seen Protack's dance before. That has never been my point and you know it. My issue is the PROCESS. I want Republican rank & file memebers to enjoy more democracy. That's the kind of society everyone deserves to live in. The outcome doesn't interest me at all. I believe that if the process is just, the out come will be fine.
Besides, if any of you had bothered to ask instead of ONCE AGAIN spreading lies about me (that I'm supporting Protack) I would have told you that if I were a Repub I would support Ting over Protack--no question. But I wanted to wait and let you guys lie and respond to things I never said for my file.
"are not doing what they are told. Terry Strine has at best a loose hold on about 15 people in Delaware"
That is your most laughable lies yet. Only 15 people and yet he manages to remain chairperson? Now you are adding idiocy to your lies. How humiliating.
"Protack's going to lose the nomination and the primary and there's nothing anyone can do about it, even if they wanted to...."
Fine. Your point? Is that supposed to a response to me? Or is that just another lie--an implication that I want Protack to win this weekend? You are so full of shit.
"...because of one fact: Republicans do not see Mike Protack as someone they want to represent them. Period."
I don't blame them. I wouldn't want his views repersenting me as well. BUT WHAT DOES TRHAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE PROCESS OF CANDIDATE SELECTION AS RUN BY THE LEADERSHIP OF ***YOUR*** PARTY?
It's screwed up--it's rotten w/ elite interest--and not one of you have shown one bit of outrage about it. Why, Ryan's boss can soliticit money from Ting to buy a letter and send it out supporting Ting BEFORE THE CONVENTION and none of you are the least bit disturbed. I bet you guys won't even post anythinbg about it here. And I know why--because I got it right. You all are shilling for the party on THIS blog. So DT when you "condescend{" to me, it won't have any meaning. You have really shown your real colors on this matter. It won't matter because in the end you are beneath my contempt.
But just so Ryan's boss' arguably corrupt letter gets some air on this blog, I will post it here. I will post what you will keep silent about:
"Congratulations on your selection as a delegate to the Republican State Convention in Dewey Beach! As a delegate, you have a unique, crucial, and very exciting role to play in the selection of our statewide Republican candidates. This year we have a critical US Senate race, and while this will be an uphill battle, it's a fight that can be won with the right candidate and message. I know that Jan Ting is the man who is up to this extraordinary task.
Jan has met with many of our College Republicans and the reaction among them has been unanimous: This is the man we support and the man we want to fight for on Election Day. His ideas and vision for issues like immigration, national security, and tax reform are not critical to solving the important issues of today, but they are ideas for our generation. Jan understands young people better than anyone...he has the opportunity to work with them every day. We know that he will fight to find solutions today so that our children and our grandchildren can live a happier and more prosperous life tomorrow.
While Jan's personal history, experience in government, innovative ideas, and service to the Republican Party are all important reasons to support his nomination, there is one more. Jan's humble sincerity, integrity, and depth of character make him a candidate that we in the Republican Party can be proud of. As our candidate for US Senate, Jan will be the standard-bearer of our Party in the Fall. This is a task not to be undertaken lightly...and I know that Jan recognizes its importance. I will be proud, and Delaware's College Republicans will be proud, to stand behind Jan Ting and follow him through Election Day as we win campaigns up and down our state.
I look forward to greeting you in Dewey Beach on April 29, and I hope you'll join me in supporting Jan Ting for US Senate! " ______________
You guys might not be revolted by your party's ugly practices, but I am disgusted by it for you. Me and the many Republicans who fill up my e-mail box asking me to continue.
Saw no "cretin." Saw no "crazy." Again, embarrassing yourself for all to see.
There is nothing wrong with the process. There will be a convention this weekend where delegates will get a chance to choose a candidate. Protack has been flooding all the delegates with auto-calls, so his claim that he has been denied access is fallible. Then we will have a primary. Where exactly is he not getting a fair shake?
The College Republicans are fully entitled to endorse a candidate prior to the convention. And I imagine Ting didn't send money to them, they sent the letter to Ting to mail. That's how endorsements are usually handled.
Your lack of knowledge on this surprises no one. Not only am I not disturbed, I am totally fine with this. Endorsements happen all the time. There are only two people who this bothers -- you and Protack.
From what I understand, when Ting and Protack debated before the College Repubs, Protack tanked miserably. Based on that, their particularly well-written endrosement is very valid.
You claim to have all these emails from Republicans. Print them. Prove it.

The guy took the job when no one else wanted it, and he has never been legitimately challenged for the job. Please stop pretending you know something about matters that you so clearly do not.
The people who matter, the people who make the calls and walk the neighborhoods and volunteer their time and money are the heart and soul of the Republican Party, and they will not be supporting Protack. Unlike you, who, by virtue of your actions, actively support Protack. This for a guy who could only get 5,000 votes in a 2004 GOP Governor primary where half of the GOP was still pissed off at Bill Lee for his words and actions in 2000.
Also, RickJ, who wrote the Lee blog, is not a DCBA member, nor is he in the GOP leadership. He's entitled to his opinion, but his opinion is not keeping Protack down.
Thanks for the clarification DT. Though I'm thoroughly enjoying this little tete-a-tete, I'm retired from blogging for the most part, choosing simply to troll around these parts.
The Protack issue has me perplexed. It's as though no one remembers the fact that he:
* Submitted false finance reports in 2002 and 2004.
* Bragged that "(a)s for campaign signs, there are about 100 over the state" in 2004. One hundred?
* Said he would give students $5,000 a year for their education costs if their school fails to have at least 70 percent of their students pass the DSTP assessments. If the student comes from a low-income family, the amount would jump to $7,500. At the time of the statement, 57% of schools in Delaware were considered "Failing" - an eight figure annual payout.
* Claimed his primary opponent would recognize gay marriages from other states in a radio ad.
I'd also like to state (for clarity's sake) that some of what Dana quoted as mine was from me quoting Celia in the Grapevine. While I was then a volunteer amateur shill, Celia does what she does for a living, and I wouldn't want to take credit for her work.

This is true. I just wanted to clear the air, and make sure Dana's "truth" was throughly responded to.
Just remember what our "old buddy" said when the concept of the DCBA and the Delaware 2006 website became reality, typo and all:
Great idea. Congradts.
