Jan Ting mentioned on NationalReview.com's The Corner

As I wrote on my own blog yesterday, we need to come to some rational decision on this issue soon that doesn't reward lawbreakers while still allowing people who wish to join our society to do so. Immigration should be allowed, but we need to acculturize them to our society so that our "Melting Pot" can continue to flourish.
Temple U. law professor Jan Ting won a straw poll of the Delaware Republican state committee this week to run against Sen. Tom Carper (there's a perennial gadfly also seeking the nomination). Ting, who was assistant INS commissioner in Bush 41 (and is a Fellow at my Center), has an uphill battle before him, since Carper has $2 million in the bank and near-universal name recognition. But Carper also has a D- grade from Americans for Better Immigration, and if immigration becomes a hotter political issue (there are more illegal immigrants in Delaware than you'd think) Ting, the son of Chinese immigrants and a pro-enforcement hard-liner, could just pull it out. He's a bit more optimistic on Ting's chances than I might be, but he's right that illegal immigration could become a hot political topic on Delaware sometime soon. Sussex County has a large number of migrant workers, many of whom no doubt are illegal.

Nice. I like it.
I believe that you are right on about immigration. There is a need, and an urgency to incorporate these individuals into our society. At the same time, we need to find a solution that neither condones their illegal activities nor encourages it.
Ting is definitely shaping up to be a contender. I just wish Protack would find another calling.
Every time I speak with Jan Ting (and I've done so a few times) I walk away more impressed. I hope all of the (R)'s in the state do everything they can to make sure there isn't a primary. I doubt it will help, but if we can get behind Ting and give him a clear shot, he might surprise us all.
Immigration is important but it will not win this election.
I have a very detailed plan to bring in workers legally and support businesses who want their labor. If we do this the "fence" won't be needed.
Jan has said "if lightning strikes, I could win and it will take a miracle to win. That doesn't impress anyone.
GOP'ers need to tak a look at the demographics of Delaware and if you are not sure why the GOP doesn't win, say these four words. Governor Ruth Ann Minner, she won handily both in 2000 and 2004.
Best wishes
